Fine Art Sale Report

RARE BLUE JOHN STONE ANTIQUES RETURN TO THEIR COUNTY OF ORIGIN!!

A pair of Blue John stone urns on Blue John stone plinths realised a staggering value of £11,200 at Tring Market Auctions' Fine Art Sale held on Friday 23rd July.

Blue John stone is a rare semiprecious mineral that is found near Castleton, Derbyshire. It is a unique and beautiful form of flourite discovered in approximately 1750. In previous years Derbyshire has been the only location in the world  where Blue John stone can be found. Recently, however, deposits in China have produced flourite with similar colour and banding to the classic Blue John stone.

BLUE JOHN STONE URNS SOLD FOR £11,200!

Blue John stone antiques are highly sought after by collectors as proved the pre-sale interest in the items which came from prospective buyers throughout Europe.

The sale day was well attended with international bids coming from Italy and Switzerland. There was something heart-warming and satisfying to learn, however, that the winning bid of the Blue John urns came from a Derbyshire based buyer. The vases were going home.

Stephen Hearn, Managing Director, Tring Market Auctions, said, 'The pre-sale interest and spirited bidding is a true reflection of the response that quality items sold at Tring Market Auctions brings.'

Other items of interest in the sale were a William & Mary marquetry lace box which reached £1,250 and in the furniture section a small early 18th century Dutch marquetry bombe chest which reached £900.

Fine Art Sales are held every two months at Tring Market Auctions with the next being held on 1st October

The next 20th Century, Decorative Arts, Collectables and Modern Design sale will be held on the 30th Of October 2010.

All entries and enquiries welcome.
